Prioritized reasons to attend an event
Questions I ask while deciding to choose which event to attend. This is a multiple choice checklist. If two events conflict, the one with the better reasons will win.
Does it interfere with family commitments?
If there is a conflicting family event such as a birthday party, simply needing to be at home to help watch the kids or because I promised to help with something, this will take priority over almost any event. If it is related to my wife's midwifery business, then that will take priority as well.
Chicken Arpaio
Randy Parraz and Citizens for a Better Arizona in conjunction with Joe's Gotta Go smuggled in live chickens to the 19th floor lobby of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Wells Fargo building office. The video was shot by Carolyn Cooper. The press conference was held to announce the new "Chicken Arpaio" campaign because Sheriff Joe is refusing to participate in a debate with opponent Paul Penzone.
Timelapse: The Making of the UndocuBus
Timelapse: The making of the UndocuBus
During the last weekend of July, a group of community activists from the Puente Movement worked hard to prepare and paint a bus for the UndocuBus No Papers No Fear trip to go to the Democratic National Convention. Photographer Chandra Narcia set up her camera and tripod and took a series of time lapse photos of people painting the bus.
Two New Categories
I just wanted to add a quick note that Desert Free Press has two brand new categories for news stories.
The first is Finance. This category is geared more towards personal finance rather than the everyday news of stocks, bonds, and Wall Street. You can find plenty of that type of news at Bloomberg.com.
This is intended to help showcase good articles about tips and tricks that will help you out in your own life. Also, I wanted to save links to stories about people who are doing remarkable things in their own communities.
Bigger Than Hip Hop
A new Arizona Hip Hop album hit the streets April 1st. It was produced by Artistic Reason AZ and features eleven new original tracks. You can listen to it online or purchase a copy for only $7. Check it out.
I Hate Budgeting
I thought I would put a plug in for some financial things I have been working on during the past few months. Many people I run into say "If I have to balance my checkbook every month, why can't the government do the same thing?"
It is a valid point. However, how many of us are very good at balancing our own budgets? Truth be told, it can be a real pain to figure it out. It takes a lot of work and who wants to sit in front of a computer for six hours with a pile of depressing bills when we could be playing on Facebook instead?
We Are Not Immigrants
We Are Not Immigrants

I was born in Germany, I grew up in Michigan, I lived in Florida for fifteen years, and then I moved to Arizona in 2005. What is wrong with that sentence? Actually nothing unless you are wondering why we moved around so much.
The part that got left out is that after being born in Germany, I also lived in Pennsylvania part of that time, I lived in five different places in Michigan, I lived in Pennsylvania for another year, I then lived in six different places in Florida, and so far have lived in two different towns in Arizona.
I'm probably more of a migrant than most immigrants I've met.
The Big List of Facebook and Twitter Political Resources
The Big List of Facebook and Twitter Political Resources

Paul Sanchez speaks at the MoveOn.org Defend the Dream rally at the State Capitol on March 15th, 2011.
Occasionally I have someone ask me where to find information about the latest political events and rallies. If you are new to Facebook or Twitter there are many good resources which you can follow to help you keep up with the latest information.
Below is a list of some of the Facebook pages, groups, and Twitter people I personally follow to see what is going on.
